Organisation=Self Care

🪷 ORGANISATION = SELF CARE…the tools and tips on how to create more balance for you and your life.

It’s very hard as women to put ourselves first; we are the ones that keep our families and lives organised, the glue that holds everything together, works long hours, deals with the dramas, the highs and lows, the bills, the pets, the birthday cards that need to be sent, the……endless list of things that come before ‘us’!

And no matter how supportive your partner and family may be, when you’re suffering the effects of menopause, everything seems that little bit more challenging!

My lovely mum always made ‘being organised’ look easy! Simple things like writing the date on left over food in the fridge so the three day rule for foods such as chicken was clear and obvious.

Here’s a few of my top tips

🩷 Create a 4 week meal plan and batch cook to reduce time and effort needed for home made meals

🩷 Action school letters/bills/documents immediately to avoid them building up and creating unnecessary stress

🩷 Keep a clear diary (I’m old fashioned and like a written one as well as my family/shared diary on my phone)

You can also put your birthdays/anniversaries on repeat in your diary with an alert set a few days prior to remind you

🩷 Have a TO DO list and categorise projects and tasks in order of priority to ensure you complete the most crucial ones first

🩷 Prepare clothes and items needed the night before to reduce morning stress.

🩷 Keep a selection of birthday and ‘occasions’ cards ready for when you ‘forget’ an important date

🩷 One Hour: Dedicate one hour per week to plan and organise to reduce the stress for the forthcoming week. I like to do this on Saturday afternoons but find a time that works for you and doesn’t create additional stress for you.

🩷 Create good habits: sleep, eat, reading etc these are all good habits that you should ensure you allocate time for

🩷 Declutter! Choose one small task to do once a week. This could be ‘that’ drawer in the kitchen or your desk. A tidy, uncluttered environment helps you feel more in control and less stressed

🩷 Time block. Allocate how much time you intend to spend on any task to ensure you complete all the jobs you intend to finish. Be realistic and allow yourself breaks and you time

🩷 Over estimate: When time blocking, over allocate how long a task or activity may take you. This way you will complete the job, and feel a sense of achievement as well as allowing yourself breathing space between each task in your diary.

🩷 Diarise. Keeping a detailed makes life so much simpler

My diary is my lifeline, and I keep both a written and computerised version (just in case!)

I have one for work and another for family and important dates (birthdays, appointments etc)

And I set alerts on my devices for important events with a few days lead reminder for birthdays and important events

🩷 Be Realistic; don’t set yourself up for failure by setting goals and plans that you will be unable to maintain. This can range from work to life style changes

🩷 BE KIND TO YOURSELF! It’s always so easy to feel that we should be doing more, achieving extra or completing tasks, but don’t. I’m the first to say ‘let things go’! The world will not implode if you don’t finish decorating your bathroom today or finish clearing out that kitchen cupboard. Life is stressful enough but by making a few changes to introduce organisational structure in your life, it will all feel so much easier and a lot less stressful
