Travel Stress, Hormones & Holidays

✈️ Travel Stress, Hormones & Holidays

How to Feel Calm, Prepared and Actually Enjoy Your Break

Summer’s coming… holidays are booked…

and on paper, it all sounds lovely, doesn’t it?

Sunshine. Relaxation. Time away.

But the reality?

Airports. Delays. Packing stress.

Hormones doing their own thing.

Sleep all over the place.

And suddenly you’re thinking…

👉 “Why does this feel so overwhelming?”

If that’s you — you’re not alone.

And more importantly… you’re not the problem.

🌿 WHY TRAVEL CAN FEEL MORE STRESSFUL IN MIDLIFE

Perimenopause and menopause can make your body more sensitive to:

* Stress and overstimulation

* Disrupted routines

* Poor sleep

* Blood sugar dips

* Temperature changes (hello hot flushes on a plane 😅)

Your nervous system is already working harder…

so when you add travel into the mix — it can feel like a lot.

✈️ AIRPORTS & TRAVEL DAYS — WHY THEY HIT HARD

Let’s be honest… airports are not designed for calm.

Noise. Queues. Rushing. Uncertainty.

Early starts. Delays. Crowds.

For a midlife nervous system?

That’s a perfect storm.

💛 HOW TO REDUCE TRAVEL STRESS (REALISTIC TIPS)

1. Lower the pressure

Not everything has to be perfect.

Give yourself more time than you need.

Arrive early. Move slower.

👉 Rushing = stress trigger

2. Create a “calm travel kit”

This makes a huge difference.

Include things like:

* Headphones

* Eye mask

* Water bottle

* Snacks (protein-based if possible)

* Something grounding (book, music, podcast)

3. Support your blood sugar

This is a big one.

Long gaps between meals + airport food =

energy crashes, irritability, anxiety.

👉 Eat regularly

👉 Prioritise protein where you can

4. Breathe (properly)

Sounds simple… but it works.

Try:

* Inhale for 4

* Exhale for 6

Even a few minutes can calm your nervous system

5. Accept slower energy

You might not feel like your “old self” on travel days.

That’s OK.

👉 Do less

👉 Rest when you can

👉 Don’t fight your body

💊 TRAVELLING WITH HRT — WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

If you’re using HRT, planning ahead is key.

✔️ Packing

* Always keep HRT in your hand luggage

* Bring more than you need (in case of delays)

* Keep it in original packaging if possible

🌡️ Storage

This depends on the type:

Tablets:

Usually fine at room temperature

Patches & gels:

* Avoid extreme heat

* Don’t leave in direct sunlight

* Keep in a cool bag if travelling somewhere very hot

👉 Most do NOT need refrigeration — but always check your specific brand

🛫 Airport security

* HRT is allowed through security

* Liquids (like gels) may need to follow liquid rules

* A copy of your prescription can help (not always required, but useful)

⏰ Time zones

* Try to keep timing consistent

* Small shifts are usually fine

* Don’t stress over perfection — consistency over time matters most

🌙 SLEEP, JET LAG & HORMONES

Sleep is often the first thing to go…

Different beds. Different routines.

Temperature changes. Alcohol. Late nights.

👉 Be kind to your body here

Simple support:

* Get daylight early in the day

* Stay hydrated

* Don’t overload your schedule

* Nap if you need to (yes, really)

🌿 THE MOST IMPORTANT SHIFT

Instead of trying to “push through” travel like you used to…

👉 Start supporting your body through it

Less pressure.

More awareness.

More flexibility.

Because this stage of life isn’t about doing everything perfectly…

It’s about doing things in a way that actually works for you now.

💛 FINAL THOUGHT

Holidays are meant to feel good.

So if travel feels overwhelming…

it’s not because you’re failing.

It’s because your body needs a different kind of support now.

And once you understand that?

Everything starts to feel a lot easier.
