PERIMENOPAUSE; THE WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY
And why it’s time to see perimenopause from a different perspective
When most people think of perimenopause, they think of hot flushes, night sweats and irregular periods. But in truth is, some of the most significant changes through perimenopause are ones you may not notice externally or be aware of.

These are changes which are occurring internally, deep within your physical make up; increasing inflammation, insulin resistance, changes in gut health, your brain activity and connections and your skeletal and muscular make up!
Perimenopause is a progressive transition when your body gradually concludes your fertile phase of life and that is why this time is the most vital and optimal time to introduce activities and changes in your diet and lifestyle to support your long term health in to post menopause.
How you support yourself now will play a major role in how your body will respond and react in later life.
So let’s break down a few of the internal changes your body will experience
INFLAMMATION Declining oestrogen is linked to increased systemic inflammation as oestrogen has anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation can affect your brain, gut, thyroid, and immune system. It can also increase the risk for long-term conditions such as dementia, osteoporosis and heart disease

INSULIN RESISTANCE
Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugars and changes in oestrogen levels can cause your body to lose its ability to regulate its blood sugars.

GUT HEALTH
Good gut health is vital for your body to perform at its optimum. You have around 200 different species of bacteria, viruses and fungi live in your large intestine.
Declining oestrogen can disrupt your guts natural microbiome leading to bloating, constipation and diarrhoea and other digestive tract issues

But this doesn’t have to be the case:
By taking action and implementing the right changes in to your diet and activities you can reduce the risk of these serious illnesses.
I call this the window of OPPORTUNITY; a time to be empowered, to make small but powerful changes and support your brain, body and nervous system in ways that have a huge impact!
I will be covering the variety of ways you can support your body and turn perimenopause in to your window of opportunity in a new blog coming soon, so do watch this space!
I will also discuss the other internal perimenopause shifts, such as brain health and muscular and skeletal support
